Default A Visit to Boreas Pass

Boreas Pass was named after the Greek god of the North Wind. And it is appropriately named! I was up there last Sunday and the winds were howling at a constant 45 mph, gusting to 50+!

The Denver South Park and Pacific ran their narrow gauge Highline route over the pass, connecting Como to Breckinridge over the pass. The section house was occupied by railroad people maintaining the tracks and trains over the pass. Up to 150 people lived in Boreas year-round during it's peak.

The Forest Service has rebuilt it and turned it into a display. Compare it to Don's photo before it was rebuilt.

Looks like it still might be pretty cold for a desert rat! Nice photos!

Just one run...could you imagine what it would be like shoveling coal into that beast, up and over the pass??? In the WINTER???

    Those were some tough cookies.

We REALLY need that time machine, boys. I'll volunteer to be first to try it out...

Great pictures! Very cool to see the then and now pics. I'm pretty impressed that the Forest Service rebuilt the place. I wish they'd do more of that. Or preserve more historical sites. Thanx for sharing all the pictures. I really like the old ones too.
